Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro • Acclimatization

Altitude: 2,250m | Night: 3-Star Hotel, Paro

Arrive at Paro International Airport, one of the world’s most spectacular airports nestled in the Himalayan foothills. Our representative welcomes you with a traditional khadar (ceremonial scarf). Transfer to your hotel for check-in and rest.

Afternoon: Visit the National Museum of Bhutan housed in the ancient Ta Dzong (watchtower), followed by a gentle walk through Paro town to acclimatize. Evening briefing about your trek.

Day 2: Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Hike: 4-5 hours | Altitude: 3,120m | Night: Hotel, Paro

Today we visit Bhutan’s most iconic landmark: Taktsang Palphug Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley floor. Legend says Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress to meditate.

The hike takes approximately 4-5 hours round trip through beautiful pine forests. Ponies are available for the first part if desired. Lunch at the cafeteria with spectacular views of the monastery.

Day 3: Paro to Jele Dzong

Trek: 3-4 hours | Distance: 8 km | Altitude: 3,950m | Night: Camp near Jele Dzong

Begin your trek with a gradual ascent through beautiful pine forests to Jele Dzong, a historic fortress monastery built in the 15th century. The trail offers stunning views of Paro Valley and distant Himalayan peaks.

The dzong, largely in ruins, retains its spiritual significance and offers a perfect introduction to high-altitude camping. Camp overnight near the dzong with spectacular sunset views over the valley.

Day 4: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha

Trek: 3-4 hours | Distance: 10 km | Altitude: 3,780m | Night: Camp at Jangchulakha

Continue through thick alpine forests and rhododendron trees. The trail ascends gradually with breathtaking mountain views emerging around every corner. Keep an eye out for blue sheep and Himalayan birds.

Jangchulakha is a beautiful pasture area with yak herds grazing in summer. Camp here with stunning views of Jichu Drake peak (5,980m) and surrounding mountains. Evening tea with incredible sunset colors.

Day 5: Jangchulakha to Jimilang Tsho

Trek: 4 hours | Distance: 11 km | Altitude: 3,870m | Night: Camp at Jimilang Tsho

Descend through rhododendron forests to Jimilang Tsho (Sand Ox Lake), known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. This sacred lake is believed to have been visited by Guru Rinpoche and holds spiritual significance.

The lake’s serene beauty makes for a perfect camping spot. Afternoon to rest, explore the shoreline, and meditate by the sacred waters. Evening campfire with traditional Bhutanese tea.

Day 6: Jimilang Tsho to Simkota Tsho

Trek: 4 hours | Distance: 11 km | Altitude: 4,040m | Night: Camp at Simkota Tsho

Trail climbs past several smaller lakes and tarns to Simkota Tsho, another sacred lake at higher altitude. The views become more spectacular as you gain elevation.

On clear days, see magnificent views of Mount Gangkar Puensum (7,570m), Bhutan’s highest peak and the world’s highest unclimbed mountain. Camp by the lake with opportunities for sunset photography and stargazing.

Day 7: Simkota to Phajoding

Trek: 4-5 hours | Distance: 10 km | Highest: 4,210m | Night: Camp at Phajoding

Ascend to Phajoding La pass (4,210m) - the highest point of your trek. The panoramic views from the pass are incredible on clear days. Then descend to the Phajoding monastery complex, one of Bhutan’s most sacred meditation sites.

The monastery complex includes several temples, meditation caves, and monks’ quarters. The spiritual atmosphere is profound, with ancient meditation caves still used by monks today. Camp near the monastery with evening meditation possible.

Day 8: Phajoding to Thimphu

Trek: 2-3 hours | Distance: 5 km | Altitude: 2,320m | Night: 3-Star Hotel, Thimphu

Gradual descent through beautiful pine forests to the Motithang area on the outskirts of Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The trail winds through forest with occasional views of the expanding city below.

Check into your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest. Experience traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath (menchu) - heated river stones immersed in medicinal water for therapeutic relaxation.

Day 9: Thimphu • Departure

Activity: Morning at leisure | Drop: Paro International Airport

Morning breakfast at your Thimphu hotel. Enjoy a leisurely morning - perhaps visit the Giant Buddha Statue (Kuensel Phodrang) overlooking Thimphu valley or explore the local markets.

Transfer to Paro International Airport (1 hour drive) for your departure flight. Bid farewell to the beautiful Land of Happiness. Tashi Delek – may your journey home be safe, and may the blessings of Bhutan remain with you always!
